Thank you to all of our members who have hosted, and continue to host wonderful events. If you would like to host a game please read the responsibilities below, followed by instructions on how to post a game, and tips for being a good GM.
RESPECT
In addition to the basic respect responsibilities laid out for members we expect hosts to respect the effort, time and passion that our members are putting into your event. This means:
- Showing up for your own event early (or at least on time)
- Communicating any changes promptly and as thoroughly as possible.
- Discussing any non-PG scenarios with players before the game begins (preferably online so they can choose to participate or not)
- Letting an Organizer know as soon as possible if there are any membership issues that arise during the game (inappropriate behaviour, or no-shows)
HOSTING THE VENUERegardless of if you are hosting at home, a local pub, library or renting out a stadium, you are responsible for your venue and for covering any costs associated with booking the venue. It is expected that in your game description you will indicate any special circumstances such as: pets, no accessible access, over 19 only venues etc…
If you host in a public venue you are NOT responsible for any purchases that your guest make, please do be sure to remind your guests to settle up with the venue for any of their purchases before they leave the game. TAG will not be able to reimburse you if your guests forget to pay their tab.
PREPARE YOUR PLAYERSIf you are expecting players to bring any specific items with them, pay an entrance fee, or participate in role play that may would not fit a PG rating discuss all of these issues either in your game description or by e-mail with your players before they arrive for your event.
RESOLVING CONFLICT / ISSUING A WARNINGUnfortunately no matter how good of a host you are some people don’t know how to be good guests. This may include inappropriate behaviour, or simply not showing up when someone had RSVP’d yes. We recognize that our hosts go to a lot of work to prepare great events and we don’t want people spoiling your hard work. If you feel that someone did not behave appropriately at your event, or did not show up when they had RSVP’d yes (especially if you had a waiting list) please let
an Organizer know within one week. An Organizer will issue a strike to the member, or if the inappropriate behaviour was serious (i.e. racial discrimination, sexual harassment, disruptive intoxication) will ban the member.
HOW TO POST A GAME:Contact an Organizer (
Desiree and
Sara M do the most posting) with the following information:
1. Title:
2. Open or Closed
(Open means you are accepting any and all players that RSVP, Closed means you already have a list of players who are participating – if it is a closed event provide the list of members who are playing).
3. Date
4. Time
5. Place
(with postal code so that we can add it to the map)
6. Description
(include a description of the game as well as any specific venue or game considerations)
7. RSVP limit
(how many people including yourself will you accept into the game?)
8. Yes/No or Maybe
(Do you want to allow people to RSVP “maybe”, Maybe RSVP’s take up the spot of a yest, but will not get a strike if they no-show)
